Privacy Policy
What Recipes and Things records when you visit, what it never asks for, how affiliate links work, and how to request access to or deletion of your information.
By Wes Hadley · · Updated
This is a small recipe site run by one cook. It is built to collect as little about you as possible. This page lays out exactly what that means.
Who runs this site
Recipes and Things is written and run by me, Wes Hadley. For anything about this policy or your information, write to contact@recipesandthings.com or use the contact page. By mail: Recipes and Things, 827 Fourth Street, Apt 504, San Francisco, CA 94107, US.
What is recorded when you visit
The company that hosts this site keeps standard server access logs, as nearly every web host does. Each entry holds:
- the IP address the request came from
- the user agent (the browser and device type your browser reports)
- the page that was requested
- the date and time of the request
These logs are used only to keep the site secure and working: spotting abuse, blocking attacks and fixing broken pages. They are not used to build a profile of you, are not combined with other data, and are not used for advertising. They are kept for about 30 days and then deleted.
What is never collected
The site is static. There are no accounts, no logins, no comment sections, no newsletter and no forms of any kind, so there is nowhere on the site to type in your name, email or anything else. Pages load no third-party trackers, no analytics scripts and no ad scripts.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies. Nothing is stored in your browser by Recipes and Things.
Affiliate and paid links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, and some pages are paid placements labeled “Advertisement.” How that works and how it affects what I recommend is explained in how this site earns money.
When you click an affiliate or paid link, you leave this site and go to the seller’s own site. From that point, the seller’s privacy policy applies, not this one. The seller may set its own cookies, including ones that tell it you arrived from here so it can credit the referral. I do not receive your name, address, payment details or what else you buy. Check the seller’s policy before you buy if this matters to you.
Email you send
If you write to me, I get your email address and whatever you put in the message. I use it only to answer you or to fix the problem you reported, such as an error on a recipe. I do not add you to any list, and I do not pass your message on. I delete old messages once they are no longer needed for that purpose, and sooner if you ask.
Children
Recipes and Things is meant for grown-up cooks, and nothing here is aimed at anyone younger than 13. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, write to me and I will delete it.
Your rights, including California residents
You can ask what information I hold about you and ask me to delete it. Since the site keeps so little, the answer is usually short: any email you sent me, and server log entries for up to about 30 days.
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), gives you the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to request access to it, to ask that it be corrected or deleted, and to not be discriminated against for using these rights.
- To make a request, email contact@recipesandthings.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line. I may ask for enough detail to match the request to records, such as the date you visited or the address you wrote from.
- Response time. I will reply within 45 days.
- No sale or sharing. I do not sell your personal information, and I do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is nothing to opt out of, but you are welcome to ask.
Changes to this policy
If how the site handles information changes, I will update this page and change the “Updated” date at the top. Any change will also be listed in the change log on the Corrections page. See also the Terms and Conditions.
